Coloration Pattern
Great Blue Herons appear blue-grey from the distance, with a wide black stripe in excess of the attention. In flight, the higher facet of the wing is 2-toned: pale around the forewing and darker within the flight feathers. A pure white subspecies takes place in coastal southern Florida.
